![]() ![]() The rare super cars will arrive into Trim at approximately 6pm on Sunday 11th September and spectators will be able get up close and personal with 200 of the finest cars on the planet and enjoy the unique free family festival atmosphere that Cannonball is renowned for. The event has already raised €1,298,779 for Irish charities and organisers are hoping to reach €250,000 for HOPE by the end of September 2022. I’ll admit that I’m rather optimistic about the new Ghostbusters because I think a remake could actually freshen up the story…or it might rely too heavily on copycatting the original and just feel gimmicky.Cannonball, the action-packed supercar spectacle, is set to roll on September 9th-11th with proceeds to the HOPE Foundation. I didn’t want to rant about how objectified Sigourney Weaver’s character is, but I’ll just summarize here to say that any time she was on screen, I cringed at the role written for her. It just reeks of 80s cheese (the worst decade ever as far as I’m concerned). So final verdict: Ghostbusters was mostly meh for me. I can forgive it for not being that funny and am just grateful that the movie isn’t asking to be taken seriously! Although “Demon Busters” might not have the same ring to it…Īt least the movie is a comedy, right? Personally, I only laughed at a few moments, but all the plot holes and flimsy world building would be even MORE annoying otherwise. That just explains the whole situation way better than “ghost” does. Now, if you want to label these creatures as demons or some other malevolent supernatural being, I think I could accept that. Is the glutonous green ghost even the same species at the stone dog ghosts? Because normally ghosts shouldn’t be able to eat, ya know?Īnd then the angry dog ghosts show up and everything just becomes confusing again. After all, Aren’t ghosts supposed to be the spirits of a dead person? These “ghosts” are closer to alien monsters…that would explain the world domination AND why the green one likes pigging out on food. Because I’m not convinced they’re actually ghosts. Plus, with Murray out of the field, maybe we’d learn about about these “ghosts”. He’d be great charming clients and staying out of the field where the actual experts just trip over him. I’ve got it! Maybe he should have saved the group some money and worked as the receptionist. It is the most awkward, forced weirdness ever. I totally understand that it’s because he’s the one with the people skills, but blergh…. And yet, Murray is the leader of the group. He’s clearly lazy, happily hitting on chicks and making money without actually working. You know what’s weird about Murray’s character? He really doesn’t believe in ghosts before his team’s first encounter at the library. Oh, and I know the “Who Ya Gonna Call” song! And somehow a giant Stay Puft marshmallow man makes an appearance. What I already knew: Bill Murray and friends use backpack gun things to shoot ghosts down. ![]() Perfect timing, since the remake has just come out.Īnd imagine my delight when I watched this movie and found that it is NOT a Christmas movie!!!! Let us all rejoice! The masses voted on what movie I should review next and I was delighted that y’all chose the original Ghostbusters. Nostalgia Goggles :The Original Ghostbusters Movie ![]()

It’s a change in tone purposefully less celebratory. This goes deeper.” She presents with ease, but it makes confronting watching. “On East Enders, there was a character Strictly was so positive. The film grapples with discrimination, isolation, and how technology is eroding the deaf community. ![]() Estimates suggest 11 million people in the UK are hard of hearing, with 1.2 million adults unable to hear most conversational speech. The result is Signs for Change, a film which explores the daily lives, challenges and barriers faced by deaf people in Britain. We have politics and issues that we care about battles that need fighting. “Nearly all wanted to make films about how deaf people hear music,” she says. Plenty of people approached her to make factual programmes post- Strictly. But we’re here to discuss a new BBC documentary she’s presenting, airing later this month. It’s not far from where she now lives, newly single. We’re meeting on a midweek lunchtime in May, at a studio in north London. As Teri Devine, director of inclusion at the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) puts it: “Many deaf children were encouraged to embrace their hearing aids, use BSL, and feel more confident after watching.” It was particularly special for the wider deaf community. It took a long time to properly hit me.” Interest in British Sign Language (BSL) courses sky-rocketed. This might be a big deal.”Īlmost 18 months later, Ayling-Ellis still can’t quite believe the reaction. It was only at camera rehearsals in the studio, when I was told the crew – who never stop – all dropped what they were doing to watch that I thought: shiiiiit. “And most importantly,” she adds, “more true to me. “From there, we created the dance, shaping and changing it throughout the week.” The result, she hoped, would be more energetic, more vibrant, more full of life. So, if S_max denotes the highest magnitude sample within the n-th frame, then the maximum possible gain factor for the n-th frame will be G=Peak/abs(S_max). Next, it computes the maximum possible gain factor (without distortions) for each individual frame. The Dynamic Audio Normalizer then finds the highest magnitude sample within each frame, individually and independently. A frame typically has a length 500 milliseconds, but the frame size can be adjusted as needed. That's because the "loud" parts can not be amplified any further (without distortions) and thus the "quiet" parts will remain quiet too.ĭynamic Audio Normalizer solves this problem by processing the input audio in small chunks, referred to as frames. If, however, the volume of the input audio varies significantly over time – as is the case with many "real world" recordings – the standard normalization algorithm will not give satisfying result. This works fine, as long as the volume of the input audio is constant, more or less. So if S_max denotes the highest magnitude sample in the whole input audio and Peak is the desired peak magnitude, then the gain factor will be chosen as G=Peak/abs(S_max). Consequently, the gain factor must be chosen in a way that won't cause clipping (distortion), even for the input sample that has the highest magnitude. How It WorksĪ "standard" (non-dynamic) audio normalization algorithm applies the same constant amount of gain to all samples in the file. The "native" API is written in C++, but language bindings for C99, Microsoft.NET, Java, Python and Pascal are provided. ![]() Last but not least, the "core" library can be integrated into custom applications easily, thanks to a straightforward API (application programming interface). Furthermore, it can be integrated into your favourite DAW (digital audio workstation), as a VST plug-in, or into your favourite media player, as a Winamp plug-in. The Dynamic Audio Normalizer is available as a small standalone command-line utility and also as an effect in the SoX audio processor as well as in the FFmpeg audio/video converter. It will retain 100% of the dynamic range within each "local" region of the audio file. ![]() ![]() Note, however, that the Dynamic Audio Normalizer achieves this goal without applying "dynamic range compressing". In other words: The Dynamic Audio Normalizer will "even out" the volume of quiet and loud sections, in the sense that the volume of each section is brought to the same target level. This allows for applying extra gain to the "quiet" sections of the audio while avoiding distortions or clipping the "loud" sections. However, in contrast to more "simple" normalization algorithms, the Dynamic Audio Normalizer dynamically re-adjusts the gain factor to the input audio. It applies a certain amount of gain to the input audio in order to bring its peak magnitude to a target level (e.g. ![]() They will try to pass the front runner before the other horses in behind have a chance to hit full speed and close. This means that a jockey can keep an eye on the front runner and means that they won’t allow them to get too far ahead and “steal” the race. However, if I set my own fractions and control the race, sometimes the other horses just won’t catch me. There are many benefits to front running, you can basically stay clear of the other runners and avoid traffic problems, get a clear sight of any jumps in a national hunt race (and avoid fallers) and can control the pace of the race to suit you.įront-running, however, can be tricky as a jockey will need to judge the pace of the race perfectly so that their horse does not use too much energy early in the race and then tire in the closing stages.įront running is tricky, as I need to get the pace right too slow and the other horses can quicken by me, too fast and I could tire.
